Salome Johnson has a unique perspective on health and healing that has been developed over a lifetime of challenges, both her own and those of others. Over the past 25 years, she has earned an undergraduate degree in Cultural Studies while simultaneously working as a Mental Health RN and attaining certifications and teaching experience in CBT, DBT and Mindfulness, amongst others. Additionally, she has also completed training as a yoga instructor (200hrs), 2nd degree reiki practitioner, supported a long-time meditation practice, contemplated the power of prayer, used food as medicine, and maintained the heart of a life-long devotee on the spiritual path–a journey enhanced by her travels to India, Nepal, and Israel several times throughout her 20s. Her extensive life experiences as a friend, daughter, mother, wife, and caregiver have enhanced her awareness of the many inherent challenges of being human.
Caring for others has been a lifelong theme in Salome’s life. As the wife of Kirk Johnson, she was again thrust into the role of caregiver when he was admitted into the cardiac ICU with heart failure, eventually requiring a subsequent heart transplant. She understands the complexities of caring for others while trying to maintain one’s own health and well-being.
Salome believes that we all have the ability to transform ourselves, and subsequently our lives, through the act of opening our heart, mind and consciousness. When we start to tune into life as it is and listen to the silence within, we can begin to see life from other perspectives, which in turn opens doors we did not previously think were available to us. One of her favorite sayings comes out of the Bhagavad Gita, “Elevate yourself through the power of your mind and not degrade yourself, for the mind can be the friend and also the enemy of the self.”
